Winning the War on Talent: The Art & Science of Building and Evolving Cohesive TeamsThe concept of "art and science" is important because one of the hardest, and most important things CEOs need to do is knowing when, as well as who should, and how to evolve the team during the different stages without losing momentum, and positively vs. negatively affecting the close-knit culture of small teams. In the early R&D stages of a venture-backed company, the environment, milestones and processes are different than what is required during the clinical study and commercialization stages. Often times, people who are best suited for the early stages may not be as effective in later stages & vice versa. We'll also discuss the "will" of leaders as it relates to building solid and cohesive company cultures.
Through Q&A, stories, examples, and humor, we'll follow a sequential process of hiring that will resonate with CEOs leading venture-backed, small-to-mid size, and large MedTech companies:
- Pursuing, Attracting and Assessing talent
- Developing & Retaining Talent
- Stretching & Promoting Top Talent

Medtech has traditionally gone from relatively small proof of concept registries directly to a pivotal randomized PMA study, perhaps prematurely and prior to gaining a better understanding of the product’s capabilities or performance. This panel will discuss where and when it makes sense to pursue a two-step vs. three-step approach to improve success rates on the pivotal study. The implications of the three step approach for the overall development timeline and financing challenges will also be explored.
