Andrew Weiss
Mr. Weiss is the President & CEO of CoAxia, Inc., a Minneapolis-based startup in clinical trials with an innovative, catheter-based treatment for ischemic stroke. Mr. Weiss has raised $60M in venture funding for CoAxia, which recently completed enrollment in a 500 patient, randomized, controlled trial of its NeuroFlo device in patients with ischemic stroke.
Prior to CoAxia Mr. Weiss built a twenty year career in the Medical Device Industry, starting with GE Medical Systems based in Paris, France, as business leader for its entry-level X-Ray systems. Following this role, he led Sales Support marketing efforts for GE Medical in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and then for North & South America. Mr. Weiss left GE to become Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Marquette Medical Systems, a provider of networked intensive care monitoring systems and electrocardiograms. Following Marquette, Mr. Weiss became President & CEO of Vital Images, where he co-developed and launched the Vitrea 3D Visualization System for 3D CT, MR and Ultrasound images. He took Vital Images public in 1996. Mr. Weiss joined Medtronic as VP & General Manager of its Surgical Navigation Systems business, following which he became VP & General Manager of the Medtronic Neurological business, which developed deep brain stimulation systems, spinal cord stimulation systems and implantable drug pumps to treat certain movement disorders, parkinsons’ disease, epilepsy, obsessive compulsive disorder and chronic pain.
Mr. Weiss is an advisor to a number of medical device startups and venture firms and is a Director of Ornim, an Israeli-based startup developing new technology for cerebral tissue oxygenation and blood flow analysis, and of Steady State Imaging, a Minneapolis-based development stage company with new technology for advanced MRI medical imaging.
Mr. Weiss is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has an MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
