Biography

At Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices, Huzefa leads the North America Education Solutions teams, supporting >$11B US medical device business, across surgery, orthopedics, electrophysiology & specialty solutions. Huzefa aims to drive the adoption of digital surgery platforms leveraging AI/AR/VR and other digital technologies. Huzefa leads digital transformation of surgical education via quality improvement and education solutions.

At Medtronic Diabetes, Huzefa served as Global Head of AI & Digital Health. Huzefa built the digital health business driving business model innovation, data science research & streaming analytics. He drove innovation in digital with connected glucose/insulin devices. Huzefa led Medtronic’s partnership with IBM Watson, where AI-ML were used to improve diabetes management with personal virtual assistants (Sugar.IQ With Watson), hypoglycemia prediction, patient management services and cognitive bionic pancreas systems.

Key innovations include Sugar.IQ with Watson, a context-aware personal assistant for people with diabetes, informatics in Abbott’s Freestyle Libre wearable sensor & diabetes coaching services.

Over the last decade, Huzefa has held both technology & business roles at Medtronic, Abbott, Hologic and Fujifilm building medical applications in diabetes, oncology, radiology and value-based healthcare (VBHC).

Huzefa earned an MBA from University of California Berkeley – Haas Business School and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (Machine Learning) from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He also earned MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of Michigan, and in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, respectively. Huzefa earned his BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Mumbai.
