Biography

Steve Stern, MD is the principal in SternHealth, LLC. Steve is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He did his orthopaedic residency and fellowship (Knee Surgery) at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and was a North American Traveling Fellow in 1992. Steve also received his MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Steve was an orthopaedic surgeon in clinical practice at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for 17 years. He subsequently worked at a large insurance company for over 10 years holding various positions including functioning as their national orthopaedic medical director. In this role, Steve had responsibilities for medical and reimbursement policy, society relationships, vendor management and subject matter expertise related to his responsible clinical areas.

He has authored or co-authored more than 25 published peer reviewed articles and edited a textbook published in 2000: Key Techniques in Orthopedics (second edition published 2018). He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has spoken at multiple national meetings and was an invited guest speaker at the Korean Knee Society. In addition, he served as a Board Member and Treasurer of the American Joint Replacement Registry.

In his spare time, Steve likes to run and has completed seven marathons.
