Propeller Health CEO David Van Sickle Explains How Sensors, Data Can Help Manage Respiratory Disease

David Van Sickle, CEO & Co-Founder of Propeller Health, brings his public health background to health tech start-up Propeller Health. The company has created a line of sensors that work in conjunction with inhalers and spirometers to measure medication intake and breathing capacity of people with asthma. The start-up has undertaken some bold projects with entire cities including Louisville to demonstrate how tools such as these can benefit communities. In this podcast Van Sickle discusses the company’s unique origins, its technology and a small hiccup involving the company’s former name. Van Sickle will be speaking on an innovative panel at the May 31 Medtech Conference in Minneapolis.

Propeller Health

David Van Sickle, PhD, is the Co-Founder and CEO of Propeller Health, a digital medicine company focused on chronic respiratory disease. Previously, Van Sickle was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholar at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. From 2004-2006, he was an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, where he was assigned to the Air Pollution and Respiratory Health Branch. Van Sickle received his PhD in medical anthropology from the University of Arizona in 2004. In 2011, he was named a Champion of Change by the White House for his work on innovation
